Monica is a passionate farmer, proven leader and innovator of effective gender transformative programming and youth inclusion initiatives in Agrobusiness, Agroecology, sustainable Agriculture, Natural Resources Management and Policy Advocacy. Her educational background is in Gender, Development, and Sustainable Food Ssystems from Moi University & The University of Nairobi. Monica currently works at Pelum Kenya as the Gender,Youth & Advocacy Programs Officer.
Monica leads youth & women programs in PELUM Kenya, which include the Africa Women Leaders in Agroecology (AWOLA) program in 8 African countries & Capacity Enhancement of Women Change Agents through Land rights, Resources & Representation Under Global GIZ Program -WE4R. The projects focus on building women’s leadership capacity in agroecology to influence policies and be in leadership positions & accessing land rights. In terms of youth engagement, Monica leads the PELUM Kenya & FACHIG Zimbabwe Youth Exchange Program (PSAMY) & Youth In Agroecology Business Learning Track (YALTA) which focus is to support youths and women Position, elevate & tap into opportunities within the in the agriculture value chain.
Further Monica coordinates Governance and Social Accountability for improved livelihood (GSAILI Project) in 7 counties in Kenya to build youth & women farmers advocacy and social accountability capacity engage in budget process, public participation & demand for right to food, information & good governance. Currently, Monica is exploring technology and artificial intelligence to identify opportunities for youth and women in agroecology & agro-business. During her free time, she volunteers with the Rotaract Club of Milimani, mentoring students and youths to love agriculture. Monica is scared of loud bhangs, crawling animals & cooking chapati. She loves reading, photography, cooking, farming, creating TikTok videos, and hanging out with friends.
