Mr. Filippo Amato works for the Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission and is posted, since September 2023, to the EU Delegation to Kenya as First Counsellor, Head of the Trade Section.
Mr. Amato has extensive experience in international and EU trade law, antitrust law, public enforcement, and litigation. He graduated from Columbia University (LL.M. 2001); College of Europe (LL.M. in EC Law 1998); University Institute of European Studies in Turin (Postgraduate course in International Trade Law 1996); University of Turin (J.D. with honors 1995).
Before being posted to Kenya, Mr. Amato served as Head of Trade and Economic Section at the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS (2014-2019), and as Head of Trade Section at the EU Delegation to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea (2019-2023).
Filippo also worked for two major American law firms, and at the European Commission (Directorate General for Competition, and Legal Service) where he dealt with several merger and antitrust cases. Between 2002 and 2003 he was seconded to the Court of Justice of the European Union at the cabinet of Advocate General Tizzano.
Filippo speaks fluently English, French, Italian and Spanish.
