At the International Conference on Contract Farming (ICCF – 2024) held in Nairobi, FAO reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible contract farming and sustainable agribusiness development across Africa. Represented by Economist Lan Li, FAO highlighted the importance of best practices, regulatory frameworks, and innovative models that support equitable partnerships between farmers and agribusinesses. The organization emphasized its ongoing work in implementing the UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD Legal Guide on Contract Farming, facilitating market linkages, and advancing policy frameworks to maximize sustainable impact.
The conference brought together over 500 stakeholders—including policymakers, producers, technology firms, and financial institutions—to explore contract farming as a tool for inclusive growth, foreign investment, and resilient food systems. FAO also engaged in bilateral meetings with Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture to explore synergies in digital innovation and value chain development, reaffirming its dedication to fostering knowledge exchange, investment facilitation, and capacity building across the continent.
